What We Can Control

We have all been shocked by the Coronavirus pandemic.  People are scared, not just of getting the coronavirus, but everything that comes along with it.  I don’t want to talk about fears right now. I want to talk about focusing on what we CAN control.

We CAN control our actions and where we go and who we are around. Yes, we are isolating, because we are informed, considerate people and we want to try to make sure that people vulnerable to this virus stay safe.  GOOD FOR US! We are seeing the “we” in these difficult times instead of thinking only of the “I.” We are making the effort to limit our interactions and outings.

We CAN control what we do at home.  Yes, it’s a good time to binge some shows you haven’t had time to watch with your busy schedule.  Yes, it’s a great time to connect with your family and loved ones that you don’t get to talk to that much, again because things are always so hectic in your life.  The amazing thing about this is we are all in it TOGETHER so we are in the middle of a common experience that could ultimately bring us closer together. Maybe we will be a bit more compassionate, patient, and kind to each other when this is all over.

We CAN control our commitment to staying healthy and active, even at home.  We at Quarantine Workouts are working tirelessly to make it simple for you to get exercise, even if you don’t have the equipment.  If you do, great! We invite you to use it! But don’t give up just because you don’t have dumbbells, kettlebells, and a barbell in your living room.  ;)

We CAN still control what we eat.  Some food tips for these “quarantimes”:  Try to avoid snacking just because you’re bored.  Avoid drinking too much alcohol (I know, we’re stressed!).  Support local restaurants in your area by ordering delivery from them.  Learn to cook something you’ve never tried to cook before!

We CAN still have fun!  Do a puzzle. Read a book.  Play some games! We don’t have to always be watching the scary news.  Unplug and unwind! We do not often get the chance to relax.

I hope this message calms some of the anxiety you may be feeling around what we might not be able to do in the coming weeks.  It is more productive to focus on the possibilities! Stay safe, stay healthy, stay fit!
